What Does CBD Oil Help With?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring chemical substance found in the Cannabis Sativa L. plant. It’s known for treating a variety of common ailments. But CBD isn’t all by itself in that plant. In fact, CBD is among the 113 or so chemical constituents found in hemp and cannabis plants, which we call cannabinoids, and terpenoids. Now, for the purposes of this post, we’ll just focus on CBD, since this naturally occurring compound can be extracted and combined with a carrier oil, like hemp seed or medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) oil (from coconut), that CBD is added to make CBD oil.

For years, CBD was lumped into an illicit drug category because of its fellow cannabinoid, THC, which is the component of the Cannabis Sativa L. plant which delivers that ‘high’ experienced by recreational or medicinal pot smokers. Today, we know this was completely unfair to group CBD with THC since CBD is quite different from THC. So what does CBD oil actually do for those that consume it? Well, for starters, CBD oil is completely legal, which means it’s safe and appropriate to explore the extensive range of CBD health benefits, many of which we’re still discovering.

Why is that the case? Although CBD has been around for thousands of years, valued as a form of complementary or alternative therapy, researchers and scientists only recently discovered evidence of the cannabinoid’s potential health effects. So before embarking on your own CBD journey, join us in this exploration of how CBD may impact your body.

What Does CBD Oil Help With?

Relieves Pain

We’ve used marijuana as a pain treatment dating back to 2900 B.C. But we only recently discovered why certain cannabinoids, including CBD, have pain-relieving effects. It’s because we have a specialized system in our bodies, referred to as the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which we now know controls various functions like pain, appetite, sleep, and immune system response.  Our body produces neurotransmitters, called endocannabinoids, that attach to cannabinoid receptors found in the nervous system. And all of that occurs naturally, within our bodies, even without introducing outside sources of CBD. CBD is a natural anti-inflammatory, and our patent-pending formula proves this, and it is also why people who use prescription blood thinners should not take CBD. The same reason that people who take blood thinner prescription medication do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen.

Now, guess what? Research suggests that using CBD oil can help reduce chronic pain, discomfort, and workout related aches by affecting endocannabinoid receptor activity in our bodies. It seems the CBD oil interacts with our neurotransmitters, minimizing inflammation.

For instance, a study conducted in rats showed that CBD injections alleviated the pain response of a surgical incision. Another rat study discovered that oral CBD treatment significantly reduced inflammation and sciatic nerve pain.  And multiple human studies suggest that a combination of THC and CBD treats pain related arthritis and multiple sclerosis. These studies also point to CBD oil’s ability to alleviate symptoms resulting from muscle pain, chronic pain, spinal cord injuries, and MS pain. We are not saying it does anything, we are just providing links to studies that show promise to CBD effects to our body.

Reduction of Anxiety & Depression Show Promise

In contemporary society, depression and anxiety are a leading mental health disorder. These conditions affect so many of us, taking a toll on overall wellbeing and health. In fact, according to research conducted by the World Health Organization, depression ranks at the very top contributory factor to disability in the world, and anxiety comes in sixth.

In most cases, depression and anxiety treatment involve the use of pharmaceutical drugs. But these medications can result in an array of side effects such as insomnia, agitation, drowsiness, headache, and sexual dysfunction. Moreover, medications such as benzodiazepines are addictive and may leave an end-user struggling with substance abuse concerns.

On the other hand, CBD oil may be a viable treatment for both anxiety and depression. Again, it shows promise, and we are not saying it treats or cures anything. We are just providing links to studies that are being done today. And it doesn’t carry a risk for addiction, making this cannabinoid an attractive, and possible natural treatment option for many people living with depression and anxiety. Why does CBD potentially help with anxiety and depression? Scientists think it may alter the manner brain receptors react to serotonin (a chemical compound produced by nerve cells, found in the central nervous system and digestive system). And serotonin plays an integral role in regulating anxiety and mood.

There are so many ways to incorporate CBD into your routine. Are you a nervous public speaker? You might want to introduce 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, or even 60mg of CBD dosage and see how you feel about approaching the podium afterward! And guess what? Here is another article that outlines how CBD oil has also been used in treating anxiety and insomnia in people who have post-traumatic stress disorder. Plus, many CBD oil users report getting a good night’s sleep, suggesting CBD reduces insomnia. Research suggests that CBD oil also helps calm excess activity within your body, promoting relaxation, both of which translate to a restful, good night’s sleep. Now, keep in mind: most of our evidence about the effects of CBD comes from animal trials. Still, anecdotal evidence shows that CBD also has positive effects on humans, particularly when it comes to issues like social anxiety and stress. Want to know the best way to test this theory? Try CBD for yourself! And keep reading to find out what else CBD oil helps with!

Managing the Symptoms of Cancer Treatment

Evidence suggests that CBD oil can help alleviate cancer-treatment related symptoms and side effects such as vomiting, nausea, and pain. Many doctors prescribe Dronabinol or Marinol which is a synthetic version of cannabinoids. Recently, experts conducted a study reviewing the effects of THC and CBD in 177 persons experiencing cancer-related pain who did not get any relief from medication. And here’s the good news: patients using THC and CBD experienced a massive reduction in cancer-related pain, even greater than the relief experienced by patients using THC alone. This suggests CBD could help relieve cancer treatment symptoms, even without the need for THC!

CBD oil also assists in reducing chemotherapy-induced vomiting and nausea, which are the two most commonly experienced side effects associated with cancer chemotherapy. Although pharmaceutical drugs can help alleviate these symptoms, they may prove ineffective at times, and that’s where Tanasi patent-pending Full Spectrum CBDA/CBD products may come into play as viable alternatives.

A research study conducted on 16 people receiving chemotherapy found that the combination of THC and CBD significantly alleviated chemotherapy-related vomiting and nausea, even better than the standard prescription medication treatments. What does all this mean for you? If you are suffering the side effects of chemotherapy, CBD may be a great alternative for you, especially given its added effect of moderating inflammation within your body.

Reduces Acne

Over 9% of the population struggles with acne, a naturally occurring, yet unpleasant skin condition. It can result from an array of factors including bacteria, underlying inflammation, genetics, and sebum (a naturally occurring oily substance produced by the sebaceous skin glands). Sebum helps in hydrating the skin, but if produced in large quantities, the substance can result in acne.

So what does CBD oil help with? Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it may help control and/or reduce your body’s sebum production. All of this means that using Tanasi CBD oil for acne treatment may help rejuvenate your skin so you can steer clear of acne and other skin-related ailments. If you have severe acne and have a doctor that you work with to manage your acne, you should ask your doctor about the use of CBD topical alternatives.

Neuroprotective Properties

Scientists believe that CBD’s ability to support the endocannabinoid system, as well as other brain systems, may also be beneficial for people who are suffering from neurological disorders. Most recently, CBD has proven to be an effective treatment for neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. Although the research in these areas is relatively new, early results are promising. Now, some side effects associated with CBD oil treatment for these conditions include fatigue, fever, and convulsions. Still, further CBD research shows its potential for treating neurological diseases by improving the quality of sleep, and life in general. CBD oil may also help in reducing inflammation and preventing neurodegeneration associated with ailments like Alzheimer’s disease progression. Again, we can’t stress enough the discussion of using CBD if you are under the care of a doctor. CBD shows promise, and many people are hopeful for the benefits they have experienced in using CBD.

Possibly Improves Heart Health

Recent CBD oil studies show it has numerous benefits linked to the cardiovascular system, which includes the potential to help lower your high blood pressure. Did you know that high blood pressure is associated with an array of health conditions, including metabolic syndrome, heart attack, and stroke?  Research suggests that CBD may help alleviate high blood pressure, likely thanks to its connection to anxiety and stress-reducing properties. Knowing that anxiety and stress can both elevate your blood pressure, it’s worth exploring CBD oil’s effect on your stress experience and blood pressure levels. Just exercising a little each day can also help reduce anxiety and high blood pressure. Additionally, CBD oil may help reduce inflammation and cell deaths, both of which are linked with heart disease. This effect is also connected to CBD’s stress-reducing and antioxidant properties.

Other Potential Benefits

CBD research is still new, and we need to conduct more research to fully understand its overall beneficial properties. That’s why our Tanasi team is proud to partner with a team of University-based scientists. Our parent company, GreenWay Herbal Products, LLC has given a $2.5M grant to study the Cannabis Sativa L. plant hemp varieties. And it’s also why we’re excited about some other potential health benefits associated with CBD use, all of which are currently under investigation.
